The short answer
Securing work phones and tablets comes down to a screen lock, an up to date operating system and work apps that keep business data apart from personal photos and messages. WaTo Consulting sets this up for Adelaide businesses, with full management on company devices and app level protection on personal ones, then tests a lost device wipe.
What does mobile device security for business involve?
We set up rules for any phone or tablet that touches business data: a screen lock, an up to date operating system, and work apps that keep business mail and files separate from personal photos and messages. On company phones that usually means full device management through something like Intune, while personal phones get app-level protection so the business can wipe work data without touching anything else.
What WaTo can help with
Work-data protection
Separate and secure the business information held on mobile devices.

Set rules for who can access email, files and business apps from a phone.

Staff support
Help people use secure settings without turning their phone into a burden.
Who it is for
- A business where staff read work email on personal phones with no passcode
- A field service or trades team whose tablets carry job sheets, client addresses and photos
- An office that recently had a phone lost or stolen and had no way to remove the work data from it
- A practice that needs to show clients or insurers how mobile access to records is controlled
How it works
- We list the devices and what they access. We note which phones and tablets are company or personal, and which business apps, mail and files each one reaches.
- We agree the rules with you. Minimum passcode, operating system version and what happens to work data on a lost device are set in plain terms.
- We enrol devices and apply the policies. Company devices are enrolled in management, and personal ones get protected work apps that keep business data in its own space.
- We test a lost-device wipe. A test device is wiped or has its work data removed so you know the process works before you ever need it.
Why WaTo for mobile device security
- Personal phones are handled with app-level controls, so we never need to see or wipe staff photos and messages
- We explain the rules to staff in plain words, which makes them far more likely to go along with it
- Policies are set up in tools you likely already pay for, such as Intune in Microsoft 365 Business Premium
- When a phone goes missing after hours, you know who to call to remove the work data
Mobile device security questions
Can the business see what is on my personal phone?
No. With app-level protection on personal devices, the business can only manage the work apps and their data. Personal photos, messages and browsing are not visible and cannot be wiped by the business.
What happens when someone loses a work phone?
Tell us as soon as you notice. We can lock it, locate it if that has been set up, and remotely wipe it or just remove the business data, depending on whether it is a company or personal device.
Do we need Intune for mobile device security?
Not always, but it is the usual choice for businesses on Microsoft 365, and it comes with Business Premium. Google Workspace has its own mobile management. We use whichever fits the platform you are already on.
