The short answer
Microsoft Intune lets a business enrol work laptops and phones and control encryption, passwords, Windows updates and apps from one place, including remotely wiping company data. WaTo Consulting sets it up for Adelaide businesses by checking licences, testing policies on a pilot device, enrolling devices in stages and handing over steps for leavers and lost devices.
What does Microsoft Intune device management involve?
Each work laptop and phone is enrolled in Intune, either through Windows Autopilot or Apple Business Manager for company devices, or as a work profile for staff using their own phones. From there, policies control things like encryption, passwords, Windows updates and which apps are installed, and you can see which devices are out of date or missing protection. When a device is lost or a person leaves, company data can be wiped remotely without waiting for the device to come back.

Who it is for
- A business whose laptops are each set up by hand and slowly drift apart in settings and updates.
- Staff reading work email on personal phones, where the business has no way to remove its data if a phone is lost.
- A team spread across sites or working from home, where nobody can physically get to each laptop.
- Organisations being asked by an insurer or client to show that devices are encrypted and patched.
How it works
- We check your licences and devices. Intune comes with some Microsoft 365 plans and not others, so we confirm what you have and list every device in use.
- We build the policies before enrolling anyone. Security settings, update rings, app lists and phone rules are set up and tested on a pilot device first.
- We enrol devices in stages. Company laptops are enrolled or reset through Autopilot and phones are added a group at a time, so any problems show up early on only a few devices.
- We hand over reporting and leaver steps. You get a simple view of device compliance and a written process for new starters, leavers and lost devices.
Why WaTo for Microsoft Intune device management
- Policies are tested on a pilot device first, so staff aren't locked out on rollout day.
- On staff-owned phones we separate work and personal data, so the business can remove its data without touching photos or messages.
- Device management is tied into your starter and leaver process, so a new laptop arrives ready and a returned one is wiped.
- An Adelaide team since 2001 that will still pick up the phone when a policy needs changing.
Microsoft Intune device management questions
Do we need a specific Microsoft 365 licence for Intune?
Yes. Intune is included in Microsoft 365 Business Premium and some other plans, but not in Business Basic or Business Standard on their own. We check your current licences and explain the most sensible way to add it, which may only be needed for some users.
Can Intune manage staff's personal phones?
Yes, in a limited way. With app protection or a work profile, Intune controls business apps like Outlook and Teams and can wipe their data, while personal photos, messages and apps stay private. Staff tend to be more comfortable with this than with full control of their phone.
Do our existing laptops need to be reset to use Intune?
Not always. Windows devices already joined to Microsoft Entra ID can often be enrolled without a reset, while older or locally set up machines may be cleaner to reset through Autopilot. We look at each device and pick the least disruptive option.
